ABOUT CAMBRIDGE CHORUS

DIRECTOR OF CHOIRS

Matthew Van Dyke is Director of Choirs at Cambridge High School in Milton, GA where he conducts three choral ensembles, teaches AP Music Theory, and serves as Musical Director. Under his direction, Cambridge High School Choirs have received superior ratings and top prizes in festivals and adjudications, and his students are regularly selected for All National and All State Honor Choruses. In 2022, Matthew was selected as a finalist for the Cambridge High School Teacher of the Year.


Matthew presented on the topic of “Showcasing the Tenors and Basses in your Choral Program”, advocating for the inclusion of Tenor/Bass Choirs in choral programs at the 2022 GMEA Conference. He also is the host of the Choral Catalogue podcast, which features interviews with composers and conductors discussing successful choral repertoire for middle and high school choruses. Matthew also serves as Associate Conductor of the Johns Creek Chorale.

Matthew holds a B.M. in Music Education from the University of Delaware and a M.M. in Choral Conducting from Westminster Choir College.

ENSEMBLES

PRELUDIUM (INTERMEDIATE TREBLE CHORUS)

This ensemble is for treble voices in grades 9-12 who enjoy singing and wish to enhance their skills in the basics of choral performance. Vocal technique, music literacy, and music theory knowledge will be developed as the ensemble rehearses vocal music in a variety of musical styles, languages, and periods. This is a non-auditioned ensemble which meets every day as a curricular class with after school concerts and other engagements.

PROFUNDO (INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED TENOR-BASS CHORUS)

This ensemble is for tenor and bass voices who enjoy singing and wish to enhance their skills in the basics of choral performance. Vocal technique, music literacy, and music theory knowledge will be developed as the ensemble rehearses vocal music in a variety of musical styles, languages, and periods. This is a non-auditioned ensemble which meets every day as a curricular class with after school concerts and other engagements.

CHANSON (MASTERY TREBLE CHORUS)

This ensemble is an advanced level chorus for treble voices who demonstrate exceptional musical abilities. Chanson is designed for the highly motivated musician who enjoys performing complex choral music. Students must pass an audition to be considered for this ensemble which meets every day as a curricular class. Information about auditions will be released in February of the current school year.

VOX

This extracurricular ensemble is an advanced level mixed chorus for singers who demonstrate exceptional musical abilities. Students must pass an audition to be considered for this ensemble. Information about auditions will be released in August of the current school year.

UNACCOMPANIED MINORS

This extracurricular ensemble is for mixed voices who enjoy singing in the style of contemporary / pop A Cappella. Unaccompanied Minors is primarily facilitated by student leaders who work collaboratively with their peers to rehearse and prepare music without instrumental accompaniment. Students must pass an audition to be considered for this ensemble. Information about auditions will be released in August of the current school year.
